The short version. Ori is a journal that writes you a letter back. It is not medical care and it is not a crisis service. Your journal lives on your device. We will never sell your data, advertise against it, or use it to train AI models. Ori is free.
Ori is a reflective journal. You write or speak about your day, and Ori writes you back a letter composed from what you shared — and, only if you connect them, signals from your wearable or calendar.
Ori is not medical care. It is not therapy, diagnosis, treatment, or a medical device, and it does not detect, treat, or predict any health condition. Nothing Ori shows you is medical advice. If you have concerns about your physical or mental health, talk to a qualified professional.
Ori is not a crisis service. It is not monitored by humans and cannot respond to an emergency. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency number — in the US, call or text 988. Ori links free crisis resources at any time.
Your letter is generated by an AI language model from the words you shared. It is interpretation: it can be wrong, incomplete, or miss what matters. Treat it as a mirror to think with — never as an assessment of you, a diagnosis, or instructions to act.
Ori's letters will never tell you to change medication, diet, exercise, or treatment. If one ever appears to, disregard it and tell us.
Your entries, letters, and check-ins are stored on your device. You don't need an account or to give us your name, and we don't keep a central copy of your journal.
To write a letter or transcribe your voice, the relevant text or audio is sent through our server to the providers that do that work, and is not kept by us as your journal. Our Privacy Policy lists every provider and exactly what is sent.
We will never sell your data, use it for advertising, or use your journal content to train AI models — including in "anonymised" or "aggregate" form.
You can delete everything from inside the app. Deleting the app deletes your journal with it, and we cannot recover it for you — that is the point.
Oura, Apple Health and Health Connect are optional. Ori reads them only with your permission, and only to write your letter. You can disconnect at any time from Ori's Sources screen, or revoke access from Oura or your phone's health app. Reflect mode uses no health data at all.
You need to be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, use Ori with a parent's or guardian's permission. Ori is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Please don't use Ori to break the law, to harm other people, to probe or disrupt our systems, or to resell access to the service. Ori's client source code is published under the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 licence; commercial use of the code needs a separate licence from us.
Ori is free, and provided as it is. We can't promise it will always be available, or that a letter will always arrive — Ori depends on services we don't control, and sometimes they fail.
Ori is not a system of record. Keep your own copies of anything you would be sad to lose.
We may change or stop features. If a change materially affects you, we'll say so in the app or on this page.
We'll update this page and the date at the top when these terms change. Continuing to use Ori after a change means you accept it.
Ori is an independent project, not a registered company. These terms are between you and Ori's maker.
